"An excellent communicator"This August, I had the privilege of enjoying John Folley’s demonstration of the Direct Painting technique.
In addition to being an obvious master of his craft, John is an excellent communicator. He gently guided participants - who showed up with a wide range of exposure to art and expertise - through his process, taking time to answer general and technical questions in an easy, conversational style. It was a special experience for attendees to be able to engage with an accomplished artist in a comfortable setting, away from the perceived unapproachability and formality of the “Art World.” I got the impression that each participant would be able to take something different away with them from the demonstration. Personal takeaways for me were practical in that I learned some ideas and techniques that I could take back to my own studio; they were historical in that I learned new things about the Boston School of Painting; and they were inspirational. John’s apparent love and passion for his work would, in my opinion, be inspirational for anyone - whether or not they consider the Arts as a primary interest. I would certainly encourage anyone to attend another of his demonstrations!" - Tim Joyner |
"Inspiring"Being able to see John's process from the very start was informative and inspiring. The finished pieces he had on display were breathtaking and demonstrated his process when completed. He has remarkable talent as a painter, and I'm grateful to have been able to see him at work!
